As the AMLA, the new European authority for anti-money laundering, began its work in Frankfurt, the EU updated its list of high-risk third countries with strategic deficiencies (for the first time since December 2023). Not only did the FATF follow suit shortly afterwards with an update of its own list, but it also published a comprehensive report on the risks of terrorist financing, emphasising the need for enhanced risk assessments, cross-border cooperation, and the regulation of emerging sectors such as virtual assets.
The latest edition of the ALL AML Infobrief provides insights into a number of regulatory developments that have taken place over the course of the summer. Comprehensive reports on the state of AML-CFT compliance have been published by the German FIU, the UK Treasury, the European Banking Authority (EBA), and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
As we are staying on top of these regulatory developments, we want to take the opportunity to invite you to the upcoming virtual event “Crypto Under Fire: Disrupting Terror Financing Through KYT” on 10 September 2025 (12:30 – 1:30 pm) – hosted by ACAMS Germany Chapter and moderated by ALL AML Managing Director Jennifer Hanley-Giersch.
In this online event, we will focus on combating terrorist financing using advanced Know Your Transaction (KYT) techniques. This insightful session will feature two expert speakers: Snir Levi, Managing Director of Nominis, and Dr Hans-Jakob Schindler, Senior Director of The Counter Extremism Project (CEP). They will delve into the latest trends and challenges within cryptocurrency regulation and its role in preventing illicit financial activities.
We have two new podcasts that we would like to share with you on the topic of whistleblowing and the most recent one on online fraud and how online marketplaces offering document templates enable financial crime on a mass scale.
